Controls and appearance

The default Classic controller uses the gray gamepad design: a black D-pad, colored face buttons, Select, Start and shoulder buttons. It is included.

Choose a useful layout

Use the on-surface A/B selector or Options to switch between two and four face buttons. A game still needs all of the actions it requires. Use the four-button layout when those extra actions matter.

Choose a D-pad or a left analog stick. Classic · two sticks adds both sticks, triggers and stick buttons without requiring Pro. Indigo and Crystal also show two sticks, but they are cosmetic choices rather than the only way to access those controls.

Button identity is positional. The bottom face button is face.south, regardless of which letter is printed on it. This keeps mappings consistent when a game or skin uses a different labeling convention.

Motion

Enable tilt steering from Options on a supported device. Hold the phone in your playing position when enabling it so the initial position can be used as a reference. Touch controls remain available when sensors or permissions are unavailable.

Pro appearance

Indigo, Crystal and Afterglow use different materials and optional effects. Animation must keep the touch targets fixed. Reduced-motion settings and the in-app effects control must be respected.

Physical controllers

The browser can read supported controllers through the Gamepad API. Native phone clients forward supported physical-controller input through the platform APIs. The SDK can merge phone and physical devices into the same player's actions or keep them assigned to different players.

A controller being connected by Bluetooth to the phone does not mean the phone-to-computer link is Bluetooth. The connection information describes the latter.

Letters and complete layouts

Button labels can follow the game, put A at the bottom, or put B at the bottom. Only printed letters change; positional input IDs stay the same. Computer companions suggest A at the bottom. The included games keep Classic labels and describe actions by position.

A game can request completeControls: true. Classic then uses the free two-stick layout, and Indigo, Crystal and Afterglow use their complete variants with both sticks, triggers and stick buttons. Original retro layouts remain available for simpler games. Required controls do not need Pro.
